With your materials in hand, it’s now time to measure and cut the wood. First, measure how long and wide your closet is with a tape measure. This matters because it will guide the dimensions of the shoe shelf you decide to install. There’s nothing quite like the sound of wood being cut — so once you have the measurements, use a saw to cut the pieces of wood to the right size. Keep in mind that you will need several pieces to create different layers for your shoe shelf, so be sure to cut more!
Finally, it’s time to assemble your shoe shelf! First, take two pieces of wood, and connect them with screws or nails. This will become the bottom rung of your shoe shelf. Choose the size for your bottom layer and now you can add more layers of wood on top of the bottom layer to create a shelf with steps! So, every pair of shoes will have a spot! You can use wood glue to keep the layers in place if you like for added strength.
You’re almost done building your shoe shelf! Now is time to make it appear respectable. You can also paint or stain your shoe shelf in color that complements the design of your closet. This will keep your shelf not just functional, but attractive as well. Also, you can attach hooks on the shelf sides, if you would like. The hooks are handy for hanging bags or smaller accessories, which will help you stay organized.
