Have you ever opened the pantry door and been confused or overwhelmed by the mess you have created inside? Boxes and cans are ubiquitous and it’s difficult to locate what you need.” Don’t worry! If you follow some of Chengyan’s simple but genius advice, you will be well on your way to cleaning up (and cleaning out) your pantry, and, as a result, making your life so much simpler and enjoyable.
Declutter Your Pantry: The first step is to empty your pantry. This involves taking out all the items, including the ones that have been hidden in the back! Go through them and see what you really want to keep. Toss anything that's expired or hasn't been used in a while. It’s not just about making space and enabling you to find things more easily — so leave only the parts that you actually need.
Group Similar Items: After emptying out the pantry, it’s time to organize the items you plan to store. Group similar items together. Put all your baking supplies together, for instance, flour and sugar, in one spot. Then, move all your snacks, such as chips and cookies, to a different spot.” Finally, group canned foods together. This will enable you to know exactly where to go when you need something!
Dig It Out: To further organize your pantry, try using clear containers with your food. Transparent containers allow you to quickly look in and see what you have. You can also designate them, so that you know what’s in there. For example, name a container “Pasta” or “Rice.” It makes it easier for you to find what you need even if you are in a rush!
Use vertical space: A great tip is to make use of vertical space in your pantry. It means putting in shelves or organizers that build up rather than just expand out.” Stacking items lets you store more of what you have in your pantry. You can also use hooks to hang items, such as measuring cups or utensils. This will give your pantry a neat and tidy appearance!
Keep Essentials at Eye Level: It’s also wise to keep the items you use most at eye level. This means putting them on the middle shelves, where you can easily see and reach them. If you take cereal or snacks every day, for example, put those items in easy reach. That way, you won’t need to crouch or stretch to reach them.
Organizing your pantry can also greatly improve other areas of your life in many ways. The first one: it saves you time and money. With everything in its place, meal planning and food prep become much simpler. You won’t spend half the time looking through cluttered shelves, or buying duplicate items that you’re too unwilling to dig out of some forgotten cupboard.
